Plants stop growing starting this week

This post refers to this article I read on north shore news:

Sprinkling restrictions start this week

Overall the article is talking about we should save our water to “ensure we have enough supply to cover emergency needs”.

After reading the article, I decided to bring the article to my backyard and interview with my grass and flowers. They felt sad and told me the following:

Plants stop growing starting this week

Feels like the sun and the cloud has just got into a fight

Summer had just walked into their relationship at night

Spring seems to be out of sight

Standing alone under the moonlight

Feeling the upcoming summer breeze at night

Reading this article on the north shore site

Feels like my future is in the zone of twilight

You told me that sky is the limit the rain should never be out of sight

Summer will also cry

But from time to time I feel that my leaves are getting dry

Water seems to be too far from reach, but yet their images are close enough to reflect off my owner’s window when it’s bright

I’ve also been told that this coming summer is going to be dry

I just need to continue waiting till the rain drops off the sky

I once heard about infinite blue rain from the sky

But I’ve been told it only happens at 4 to 9

Or

7 to 10 at night

I can’t believe what I read on the site

That is the only time when rain will drop while the sun is in the sky

Humans are cutting down their own carbon dioxide

By limiting our resource from keeping us alive

How am I able to survive?

Summer is coming, my green leafs are fading

I came to realize that my leafs are not growing, instead it’s falling

When will I ever see the rain from the sky

I once heard about infinite blue rain from the sky

They say it only happens from 4 to 9

Or

7 to 10 at night

That’s the only time when rain drops while the sun is in the sky

Humans are cutting down our carbon dioxide

Limiting our resource from keeping us alive

Summer is coming, my green leaves are fading

I came to realize that my leafs are not growing, instead it’s falling

When will I ever see the tears from the sky

The grass and the flowers at the backyard is kind of concerned after reading the article because they think that humans are killing them. One of the representatives among the plants pointed out a line from the article “Metro Vancouver’s water is a world0class resource” by Chair tim Steven. He later said “We have plenty of water for drinking but we shouldn’t be wasting it by drowning our grass hosing down our driveways in the middle of summer”. The plants are very furious about this after reading that because they think they have a soul and deserves the right to live in this society as well. They hope this disaster will end soon.

I’ve never been a big poetry type of person, but I definitely enjoyed reading this one. It speaks to everyone, and the fact that it’s an easy read makes it that much enjoyable.

I love the way the author is telling the story from natures point of view. I wouldn’t have looked at it from that prespective.
    It makes alot of sence.
I actually printed it out to hang on my daughter wall and sent a copy of it her her grade one class as they are doing a project on plants.
    well done.

    haha it’s so funny
I feel sorry for the plants
I like the part where you said
“they say it only happens from 4 to 9 OR 7 to 10 at night”
it rhymes and that’s the only time we’re able to water our grass

A very interesting poem. Somehow it reflects the political decisions goverment makes; without having thought about how it would affect average people

two comments one serious, one fun.

my serious comment is: i can now imagine an entire environmentalist paper written in the voice of plants and trees — it would have a front page (mainly weather of course), an editorial page (what do you think of woodpeckers?), sports (logging competitions, tallest tree, biggest leaf, etc.), food reviews (where the best soil can be found), etc. the idea is simple: plants are people too.

no pun intended, but i’m going to end by going out on a limb here and throw out some song lyrics you might find of interest. they’re from the greatest canadian band of all time (laugh away if you must, i defy anyone to do better)… and your poem reminded me of the lyrics of one of their songs, “The Trees”.

    here it goes. enjoy!

    The Trees Lyrics
    Artist(Band):Rush

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the trees,
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

    The trouble with the maples,
(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made.
And they wonder why the maples
Can’t be happy in their shade.

There was trouble in the forest,
And the creatures all have fled,
    As the maples scream “Oppression!”
And the oaks just shake their heads

So the maples formed a union
    And demanded equal rights.
    “The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light.”
Now there’s no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
    By hatchet, axe, and saw.
